Diversity and inclusiveness
Valuing diversity and inclusiveness at FirstEnergy Our Corporate Vision underscores the value we place on diversity:
|
FirstEnergy will be a leading regional energy provider, recognized for operational excellence and customer service; the choice for long-term growth, investment value and financial strength; and a company committed to safety and driven by the leadership, skills, diversity, and character of its employees. | We recognize that our success in an increasingly challenging and complex business environment depends on the talents, ingenuity, and expertise of a diverse workforce.
We are committed to employing people of different races, national origins, religions, educational levels, gender, age, disability, and family circumstances, and ensuring that everyone is respected, valued, and encouraged to develop skills and to advance in their careers. Recognizing that individuals have different needs, perspectives, and talents, we want all employees to play a part in the Company's success, and to understand that their support and commitment is essential to that success.
FirstEnergy programs We have many diversity and inclusion initiatives that will help ensure that diversity remains a basis of our future success. Examples of programs include:
- Offering an award-winning minority purchasing program that supports, mentors, and increases the visibility of minority-owned businesses.
- Taking all employees through FirstEnergy "learning maps" so that they feel a sense of belonging and ownership.
- Participating in INROADS, a national organization that develops leadership skills in minority, college-age youth, then helps place participants in companies upon graduation.
- Providing a comprehensive intern/co-op program in which students receive coaches/buddies, and participate in networking events and developmental workshops.
- Recruiting at colleges and organizations that historically serve minority students.
- Sponsoring and participating in diverse professional organizations such as the National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Women Engineers, American Association of Blacks in Engineering, and National Association of Hispanic MBAs.
- Supporting Young Professional networks.
- Offering Women's Leadership Forum to all professional women, with sessions led by senior women at FirstEnergy.
